SUMMER IN CARDIFF ■ Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is the city of contrasts. Today, it is a perfect mixture of innovative architecture and historical buildings, showing the city’s change – Cardiff used to be an important trade centre of the Victorian era and it developed into a worldwide recognized and popular city. The contrast is best illustrated by the Cardiff Castle on one hand, and the Millennium Stadium on the other.
ACCOMMODATION ■ The attendees of the summer school are accommodated in the Wales University campus close to the city centre. Single en-suite rooms in the summer school have access to the shared kitchen. The package includes full board (various dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner). Its status as a specialist sports college means that the campus has excellent sports facilities and a swimming pool, as well as modern classrooms and entertainment areas.
LESSONS ■ The summer school provides 15 hours of tuition per full week. The course aims for the attendees of the summer camp to improve their English language skills, with an emphasis on communication. The students of the language camp are taught in small groups of mixed nationalities, thus contributing to the full English experience. The summer school teachers are highly qualified and the school is British Council accredited.
ACTIVITIES AND EXCURSIONS ■ Apart from lessons, the programme includes one full-day field trip per week to places like Bath, Cardiff or Swansea, as well as one half-day field trip per week to the Cardiff Castle or Big Pit Coal Mine, where the summer school attendees are given full mining equipment. On days without field trips various sports and art workshops are organized in the language camp, while evening activities include parties, games and socializing with students from all over the world, with an opportunity to use and improve English even more.
